The government shutdown slithered to even a more impressive low, reaching a nadir as fallen veterans' families had death benefits denied.
One agency of the Department of Defense that was approved of federal funds mid-shutdown was the Utah National Guard. It was cleared Monday to spend $47,174 on a brand new mechanical bull to "draw attention to their message." Utah National Guard Lt. Cold Hank McIntire told CNS News that the original bull broke down and was beyond repair.
Mechanical bulls only send one message.
And it's a message that 18-year-olds want to hear.
But, for rather obvious reasons, Marines, soldiers, sailors, and airmen would much rather go to a dive bar to see the riding of the bulls than have taxpayers pay for it.
America's upper-earners are reasonably proposing a tax holiday during the shutdown. Clearing $50K for a mechanical bull without its mandatory drunk co-ed gives credibility to such a motion.
