LeBron Makes America Pay in Free Agency

As Bleacher Report pointed out, you could field an all-star team with the number of quality free agents waiting to see where LeBron James decides to play next year. An entire industry is literally at a standstill because of one man.

It doesn’t help speculation when the silence from LeBron’s team blows out your eardrums while Carmelo Anthony crisscrosses the country, taking meetings in person. The only meeting LeBron took was a 60-minute session during which Pat Riley pitched him on how Josh McRoberts is a critical cog in a championship team.

America has been reduced to guessing what photos of moving trucks mean.

We live in an era in which individuals are morphing into brands. LeBron has already stated his deisre to become a global icon and CNN Money has a story up today on his path to becoming the first-ever billionaire athlete.

How did we get the first billionaire rapper? How did we get the first president to raise a billion dollars?

Mining your personal data.

What better team to show LeBron the road to the one-percent?

Data mining has proven to the be the path for individuals to commodify their assets. There's scuttlebutt on the Interwebs that he's going to break his free agency decision on his website. But as we saw from ESPN's ratings from "Decision 2010," people will pay to hear where LeBron will be headed next. Why sell web ads when you can score someone's phone number/email address?

There's money to be made in app partnerships. As LeBron was barreling his way through his second title, best bud Jay Z released this three minute advertisement to sell phones and passed it off as a record album.

If Beyonce can keep a secret, you damn sure expect LeBron can.

Face it peeps, LeBron ain't foolish enough to use Twitter to announce where he’s signing.

There's no money in that.
