Liberal journalists and activists took to social media to castigate the male attendees at the Golden Globes on Sunday for not speaking out about the recent waves of sexual harassment accusations in Hollywood that have jarred the entertainment industry.
Hollywood's top talent gathered in Beverly Hills, California to honor the top film performances of the past year, but the sexual misconduct revelations about disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein and other powerful men in the entertainment industry loomed large throughout the show, making for a politically charged evening.
Female attendees like Oprah Winfrey, Natalie Portman, Debra Messing, and many others spent the night criticizing the wage gap between men and women, the lack of female directors, and an overall culture of harassment in Hollywood. They also praised the #MeToo movement, which emerged in October after media reports revealed several sexual abuse and harassment allegations against Weinstein. Since then, nuermous women, and some men, have come forward to accuse dozens of men in the entertainment industry of sexual misconduct.
Many men attending the Golden Globes wore all black on the red carpet to show support for the #MeToo and the related Time's Up movements. Aziz Ansari, Common, Zac Efron, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, and others donned black from head to toe. Some—including Joseph Fiennes, Nick Jonas, William Macy, and Justin Timberlake, among others—also wore Time's Up pins on their lapels.
Still, many liberal commentators criticized men at the awards show, particularly the awardees themselves, for not commenting on sexual harassment in Hollywood. Many journalists and activists watching at home went on Twitter to denounce the male winners, writing that not one used the time allotted in their acceptance speech to discuss the pressing issues of the evening.
Has any male winner actually commented on #TIMESUP or the harassment and abuse too many of their female costars have faced?

Has a male recipient mentioned #TIMESUP yet?

Overwhelming takeaways from #GoldenGlobes #redcarpet are:
1. Red carpet hosts ask dumb questions
2. Some celebs, esp #TimesUp members, better at pivoting than others
3. Would be nice to see more male celebs go out of their way to talk #TimesUp

The fact that no one is asking men about #TIMESUP at the #GoldenGlobes is exactly why we have a sexual abuse epidemic.

Cool to see all the men wear tuxes in solidarity with #TIMESUP tonight & also speak out against harassment & assault across industries. Oh, wait.

Left-wing organizations also blasted male attendees for not speaking out more, such as NARAL Pro-Choice America.
Not a single man who accepted a #GoldenGlobes tonight spoke out about sexual assault, #MeToo, or #TimesUP.
Wearing a black tuxedo isn't enough. We need men to SPEAK UP and stand beside us to fight to end sexual assault & rape culture.
