Clinton on Brazile Claims About Her Campaign Taking Over DNC: 'That Just Wasn't the Case'

November 9, 2017

Hillary Clinton briefly addressed Donna Brazile's claims in her new book that her campaign secretly took over the Democratic National Committee before the primary season even started, saying Wednesday it "just wasn't the case."

Brazile, the former interim chair of the DNC, wrote that she found "solid proof" that "Clinton's team had rigged the nomination process" in the form of a secret fundraising agreement that gave Clinton's team control over finances, strategy and hiring.

Liberal "Late Night" host and Clinton fan Seth Meyers did his best to soft-pedal the question when he asked her about the controversy.

"She sort of, in her book, made this comment that your campaign, through an agreement, had too much influence maybe at the detriment of the [Bernie] Sanders campaign. She's sort of walked back those comments now," Meyers said. "What was your reaction to that?"

"I didn't know what she was referring to, because as has now come out, that just wasn't the case," Clinton said.

Clinton immediately pivoted to praising current DNC chair Tom Perez for his investments in races in Virginia and New Jersey that led to a successful election night for Democrats on Tuesday.

Meyers made no mention of Brazile blasting Clinton's campaign for lacking enthusiasm, her criticism of campaign manager Robby Mook, or her saying Clinton's campaign had at times "stiff" and "stupid" messages. He also did not bring up Brazile accusing Clinton staffers of sexism and saying she felt she was being treated like a slave.

Brazile may have walked back what she wrote in her book—including falsely claiming she never used the word "rigged" in her book—but Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) said last week that the primary was "rigged."
