Ellison After Georgia Loss: Resistance Summer Is 'Going Awesome'

One day after his party suffered a loss in the Georgia special House election, Democratic National Committee deputy chair Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.) announced that his party's "Resistance Summer" is "going awesome."

Ellison, a rising star in the Democratic Party's progressive wing who narrowly lost a race for DNC chair in February, was speaking to a DNC Live event on Wednesday night.

His comments came the day after Democrat Jon Ossoff lost to Republican Karen Handel in the special House election in Georgia's sixth congressional district. The outcome left Democrats zero for four in special congressional elections since November, in spite of $35 million in spending.

"First of all, 'resistance summer' is going awesome," Ellison said in an interview with Neera Tanden, head of the Center for American Progress. "It's going well. The Democratic Party is on the move. We are getting across this country. We are fighting every single day."

Earlier on Wednesday, Ellison reiterated his support for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) after Tuesday's loss. Some of Ellison and Pelosi's House colleagues have expressed their view that with yet another special election loss, it is time for a change in party leadership.
