MSNBC host Chris Matthews took a jab at President Donald Trump and Hollywood on Tuesday by saying that he wished that America "got the wrong envelope," referring to Trump's election victory and the mistake at Sunday's Academy Awards.
Prior to Trump's speech, Matthews was providing his predictions for the night to other MSNBC anchors Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow.
"A lot of us still wish we got the wrong envelope the last three months, there was a mistake made," Matthews said.
"A lot of people are still shocked by the fact he is [president]," Matthews continued. "I wake up and I go, 'wait a minute, this really happened, this isn't a gag real.' This has been three months of reality."
Matthews said he expected Republicans to be supportive of Trump yet mystified, and "division" would be the most prominent feature of the night.
At the Academy Awards, the award for best picture was initially presented to a nominee who didn't win, leading to confusion on stage as attempts were made to correct the situation and give the award to the actual winner.
