Sen. Whitehouse Labels 'Climate Denial' the 'First Alternative Facts Operation'

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D., R.I.) discredited opposing views on climate change on Tuesday, suggesting that "climate denial" is predicated on falsehoods and one way that businesses influences politics.

"You have things like the climate denial operation, which is the first alternative facts operation," Whitehouse said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" while promoting his book, Captured: The Corporate Infiltration of American Democracy.

His phrasing appeared to suggest that those who deny climate change are pushing false arguments. His phrase "alternative facts" was an apparent reference to White House counselor Kellyanne Conway's comment earlier this year that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's false claims about the crowd size at President Trump's inauguration were "alternative facts."
