Fox News signed former State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf as a new contributor, the news network announced Monday.

Harf "will offer national security and political analysis," Fox said. She will make her first appearance Monday night on Marcha MacCallum's program The First 100 Days, Deadline first reported.

Before her most recent job as senior adviser of strategic communications for Secretary of State John Kerry, Harf was a deputy spokeswoman at the State Department from July 2013 to May 2015. She was the active spokeswoman for about two months in 2015.

Harf also worked on former President Barack Obama's 2012 reelection campaign, where she served as a campaign spokeswoman on national security issues and collaborated on national security and communications strategy.

She received criticism for a controversial comment she made in a 2015 interview on "Hardball" with MSNBC's Chris Matthews after the Islamic State released a video of the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya.

"We cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s a lack of opportunity for jobs," Harf said at the time.

"We can work with countries around the world to help improve their governance. We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people," Harf continued.

The comment led to a top-ten hashtag on Twitter that day, #JobsforISIS.

Harf was hired the same day it was widely reported that Fox News did not renew the contracts for several contributors, including George Will and Stacey Dash.
