Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough accused Bill Clinton of trying to destroy Hillary Clinton's campaign on Wednesday after the former president made comments at a campaign stop slamming Obamacare.
Obamacare is widely considered to be President Obama's signature legislative achievement and the Clintons are still looking to Obama to continue campaigning for his former secretary of state.
Bill Clinton said that Obamacare was "the craziest thing in the world" at a rally on Monday, ripping it for its effect on middle-class workers who don't qualify for the law's subsidies. After the clip of Clinton's comments were played, Scarborough laughed before critiquing the Obama-Clinton relationship on the campaign trail.
"So this guy, he needs Barack Obama more than anybody else in the world if he wants his wife to be elected president of the United States," Scarborough said. "If you can pick one person to campaign for Hillary Clinton it would be Barack Obama, and he just laid a gigantic hand grenade right at the feet of the campaign."
Later, after praising Barack and Michelle Obama as being Hillary Clinton's best surrogates on the campaign trail, columnist Mike Barnicle then said that Bill Clinton has not enjoyed the past eight years of Obama's time in office.
"The former president of the United States comes on, I mean, bubbling with resentment over the Obama presidency, clearly," Barnicle said.
Scarborough then noted that Bill Clinton's comments have been similar to those of Republicans who have criticized Obamacare.
"He called Obamacare, ‘the craziest thing in the world.’ The thing that Republicans have been at war with for seven years, ‘twice the cost, half the coverage,’" Scarborough said. "It's the craziest thing in the world."
Before replaying Clinton's comments, Scarborough had a colorful preview.
"Let's show it again. Here's Bill Clinton trying to destroy his wife's campaign," Scarborough said.
