Bill Clinton will headline a fundraiser for his wife’s presidential campaign at the home of the founder and CEO of an IT consulting company.
The former president will be the featured "special guest" at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser hosted by Mehul Sanghani at his home in Vienna, Virginia, Monday afternoon, according to the invitation.
Sanghani is the founder and chief executive officer of the Octo Consulting Group, an IT consulting company that contracts with businesses and federal government agencies and, among other things, provides "preventative cybersecurity" and "threat visualization" services.
The event comes just as Hillary Clinton endures criticism of her exclusive use of a personal email system during her time as secretary of state. Recent reports indicate that Clinton’s private server was vulnerable to hackers.
Russia-linked hackers tried to gain access to Clinton’s email at least five times when she served as secretary of state. Clinton’s server was targeted by hackers from China, South Korea, and Germany after she left the State Department. It is unclear whether the attempts were successful, which would have given hackers access to some 55,000 pages of Clinton’s work-related emails.
The Octo Consulting Group provides data analytics, infrastructure, and management services to businesses and government agencies, among other services.
"Federal agencies require new and innovative approaches to hosting their IT solutions, especially with reduced budgets. Octo develops, deploys, and manages flexible, scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions leveraging the right blend of cloud-hosted, on-premise, and hybrid designs," the website for the IT consulting firm advertises.
In March, the company was awarded a $249 million contract with the U.S. Army for information technology services. It has also provided services to the U.S. Census Bureau and the National Institutes of Health. Oct does not appear to have ever had a contract with the State Department.
Clinton supporters must pay $2,700 to attend Monday’s fundraiser and raise $10,000 to be elevated to "co-host." Those who raise $27,000 or more will be named event host and are rewarded with the opportunity to pose for a photo with Bill Clinton.
