Rep. Walter Jones (R., N.C.) sought to set the record straight on Wednesday when he told a group of reporters that he does not believe in freedom, according to reporters on the scene.

"I believe in Liberty not freedom," Jones said in response to a reporter who had mistakenly labeled him as a member of the House Freedom Caucus. Jones is a member of the House Liberty Caucus.

Jones, who is being challenged for his seat, has come under fire in recent weeks for taking what critics have described as a soft line on Iran. Jones has been one of the few Republicans backing Democratic efforts to bolster the recent nuclear deal.

Jones also faced pushback earlier this week when he joined Democrats in voting against a bill that would have increased pay to U.S. soldiers.
