Former Dem State Senate Leader Facing Felony Accusations

February 28, 2012

Brad Henry, the former Democratic governor of Oklahoma, testified Monday at the federal corruption trial of former Democratic Oklahoma Senate Leader Mike Morgan. Henry testified that he "never saw (Morgan) do anything or say anything that led me to question his ethics or integrity."

The Oklahoman’s NewsOK website reports:

Former Gov. Brad Henry on Monday described former Senate leader Mike Morgan as being "of the highest integrity and ethics" in their dealings together at the state Capitol.

Henry was the first defense witness for Morgan, who is on trial in federal court in Oklahoma City. ...

Morgan, a Democrat, is accused of accepting more than $400,000 in bribes from three companies for his political influence. Morgan, an attorney, contends he was paid for legitimate legal services.

He was indicted last year on 63 felony counts. Prosecutors Monday dropped one count, a conspiracy allegation, because of rulings Friday by the trial judge.
