White House: Changing WH Staff Would Only Be a 'Cosmetic' Change

November 6, 2014

Jennifer Palmieri, director of communications at the White House, said changes in White House personnel following Tuesday’s midterms would only be "cosmetic."

Peter Alexander of MSNBC asked Palmieri about possible changes Thursday morning.

"Wouldn't it help president Obama to make some staff changes?" Alexander asked. "Just to shift things around, maybe change up the voices around him right now to help his decision-making in the remaining two years?"

Palmieri disagreed, saying that the president has been open to different voices.

"I think that the president and the White House staff actually reach out to different voices more than people would expect," Palmieri said.

Regarding the effects of changing those who have the president’s ear, Palmieri said, "we're not going to answer all of the concerns that voters raise on Election Day in one press conference. You’re not going to do it through cosmetic changes; we understand that as well."
