Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.) hid from cameras and reporters yet again, despite assurances that both he and his Republican challenger, Ed Gillespie, would speak to the media after the Virginia Beach Forum on Thursday.
"My pledge is to the people of Virginia, that's who I will answer to, that's who will hold me accountable," Gillespie said following the forum. "I have promised the people of Virginia I will not raise taxes further, Senator Warner has voted for a trillion dollars in tax increases, he wants to raise taxes more, it's one of the big differences in this election."
Warner had a chance to respond, but chose not to. A reporter followed him down a hallway but was told by an aide that Warner had "an important phone call," but that maybe he could talk afterward.
Warner has made an aggressive effort to avoid speaking to the press since news broke about his involvement in the Virginia judgeship scandal, during which he allegedly offered a federal judgeship position as a bribe to a state senator.
