Palestinians Fire on Israeli Police from Al Aqsa Mosque

October 13, 2014

A video posted Monday shows Palestinian youth firing on Israeli police from inside Jerusalem's Al Aqsa Mosque--the third-holiest site for Muslims in the world and the center of Jerusalem's Muslim community.

Clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian youth erupted Monday when Palestinian protesters demonstrated against Orthodox Jews visiting the Al Aqsa Mosque compound.

The protesters moved inside the mosque after Israeli police tried to disperse them. After sealing themselves inside the mosque, the Palestinian youth began throwing projectiles at police, Reuters reported.

Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said the protesters left behind petrol bombs, rocks, stones, and bottles that would have been used to attack the Orthodox Jewish visitors.

The title of the video, in Arabic, reads, "The southern prayer hall in the Al Aqsa Mosque a little while ago, where clashes between youth and the forces of the occupation continue."
