Props to the Cops: Unruly Crowd Edition

The Pinkertons: America's greatest heroes

You've been to that concert. Or that movie theater. Or that play. You know the one. The one with the jackass who won't shut it. The one acting like a drunken, obnoxious fool. The one where they try to guess what the characters on the screen are going to do literally 1.3 seconds before the character does it.

We usually have to sit there and suffer, surrounded by rudeness, smothering our hatred. Fortunately, the good folks at the National Zoo did not have to deal with this crap, as police forcibly removed a loutish patron who was interrupting a benefit concert. The Prince of Petworth reader who documented the arrest made it sound as if the police were unduly harsh with the moronic little ruffian taken into custody. Read the comments for the real story, however. Frankly, if the cops had set their night sticks to "whomp," I don't think anyone would have minded. I know I wouldn't have.

I bring this up because, well, there were some folks in need of a good whomping at Portland State University. Check this video:

As Katherine Timpf noted in her writeup at Campus Reform,

the event erupted into chaos ... as any efforts by a panelist or moderator to speak were thwarted by chants including "We will not be silenced in the face of your violence," and "Fuck you, pig."

"You need to be accountable for all the people who feel unsafe by the words that you choose … and the way you cast doubt on people who have survived traumatic issues," one student shouted. "It’s not OK, and you shouldn’t be given the space to speak," another yelled.

And what was it that made these delicate flowers feel unsafe? That made them feel so scared for their security that they showed up en masse and participated in a fascistic shouting down of the proceedings? Words. That's it. Just words. Some writing. Some writing that they disagreed with. Writing that they apparently could not rebut with rational discourse. So rather than debate they disrupted. Rather than discuss they threw into disarray.

It's really absurd. This is what the left has devolved to. Where are the Pinkertons when you need them?
