NBC's Cherry-Picked Hillary Clinton Expert

Professor Angie Maxwell: Clinton 'Most Qualified Person in History'

February 11, 2014

The Arkansas professor portrayed by NBC News as an independent expert during the network's Monday broadcast on the Washington Free Beacon’s Hillary Papers story supports Clinton for president and once declared herself a member of "Team Obama."

Angie Maxwell, the Diane Blair Professor for Southern Studies at the University of Arkansas, criticized the Free Beacon report on the archive of the late Clinton confidante Diane Blair as "very cherry-picked."

However, Maxwell had previously quoted Nancy Pelosi saying she "pray[s] that Hillary decides to run for Pres. Would b most qualified person in modern history" on Twitter last May. Professor Maxwell added the hashtag "#amen."

Maxwell also retweeted an Oct. 3, 2012, tweet from President Barack Obama’s official twitter account urging people to "RT if you’re on #TeamObama tonight."

Last June, Maxwell released a study that linked Tea Party support with racism.

The NBC segment, by Alan Greenspan’s wife, identified Maxwell as a University of Arkansas professor and did not note her public advocacy for a Clinton presidential bid.
