CNN apparently turned into celebrity news channel E! Tuesday, devoting an entire segment on Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his non-Jewish Norwegian girlfriend and the "political implications" of their relationship.
Cohosts Michael Holmes and Kyra Phillips tried their very best to make a story of two young adults dating, asking, "How much is it political? Because it really is," and "Let’s say they fall in love, they want to get married. And she converts. Does this all go away?"
Thankfully CNN Senior International Correspondent Ben Wedeman was in Jerusalem to laugh off such inquests, saying that while there are some in the ultra Orthodox Jewish community that are against Yair’s chosen girlfriend, "Most Israelis you speak to sort of shrug it off with a laugh and say, ‘Well good for him.’"
"But let’s not forget this relationship began just, according to Israeli media, this past summer, and let’s not jump to conclusions," Wedeman noted.
