The Washington Free Beacon's Ellison Barber told The Kelly File Wednesday that the Girl Scouts of the USA violated their own policy against taking positions on issues of abortion when they tweeted pro-choice politician Wendy Davis as a candidate for their "Woman of the Year."
Davis became nationally famous last summer when she filibustered in favor of allowing abortions in Texas past 20 weeks.
"They very clearly state when it comes to human sexuality, birth control and abortion, they do not take positions on these issues or distribute materials associated with it," Barber said. "So with that tweet, even though they're trying to backpedal and say, 'It was a retweet, it wasn't an endorsement, we were just trying to put this article out to talk about inspirational women,' they've essentially violated their own policy. I do think that is a big deal because it goes against the core message that they're trying to promote to girls, and they are overstepping their bounds in promoting what is inherently a political message by tweeting anything tied to Wendy Davis."
