As the red menace of communism rises over New York City and sets its sights on the rest of the United States, it's worth taking a moment to note something important: Capitalism f—ing rules, and so do the billionaires who provide all that makes our country great.
So when President Donald Trump made the wise decision to ask billionaire restaurateur Tilman Fertitta to serve his country as U.S. ambassador to Italy and San Marino, we had high expectations. Fertitta exceeded them—and then some.
First, in a commendable act of selflessness, he paid for renovations to the ambassador's residence out of his own pocket. That residence is the 15th-century Villa Taverna, which, as you may have gathered, is old. Perhaps it will do for the Italians, but we Yankees need more, and Fertitta spared no expense in ensuring that future ambassadors enjoy a living space that is up to snuff.
Then, as the residence was under construction, Fertitta graciously declined to contribute to Rome's infamous traffic and instead commuted 60 miles to work via helicopter from his 250-foot superyacht. The arrangement lasted a month, according to a Fertitta press aide, who says the ambassador is now living comfortably in his new residence.
The American people are surely grateful for his generosity, and we have to believe a lusty seafaring bunch like the Italians no doubt appreciated the gesture.
Che bello!
But it is not just Fertitta's benevolence that we at the Washington Free Beacon appreciate, for as much as we love the honorable ambassador bringing an American touch to his Roman residence on his own dime, Fertitta has fought an important battle on our shores as well.
As the veganistic Left tries to take away our red meat and as our countrymen drink less than ever, Fertitta's stewardship of the Palm and Morton's—favorites of all God-fearing Americans—has kept our bellies full and our livers working.
For his selfless devotion to public service at any cost, for having a really sick yacht, and for providing us with ribeyes, hash browns, and ice-cold martinis, Tilman Fertitta is a Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year.
