Border Patrol agents confiscated enough fentanyl in the 2023 fiscal year to kill every American, according to the latest data from the southern border.
Border Patrol chief Jason Owens said Tuesday on X, formerly known as Twitter, that agents seized more than 40,000 pounds of marijuana, 13,000 pounds of meth, 11,000 pounds of cocaine, and 2,700 pounds of fentanyl. The figures only included drugs found between ports of entry, not at official crossings.
A lethal dose of fentanyl can fit on the tip of a pencil, and the drug is often cut with other drugs, meaning users can unknowingly take drugs containing fentanyl. Two milligrams of fentanyl is a lethal dose, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, which means the 2,700 pounds of the drug confiscated at the border is enough to kill the U.S. population nearly twice over.
The Border Patrol statistics were the latest news from the southern border to highlight the crisis of migrants, drugs, and other contraband coming into the country.
Photos surfaced this week of a Border Patrol agent who was reportedly beaten and bloodied by an illegal immigrant.
Border Patrol sources told Fox News on Monday that they recorded 11,000 illegal border crossings over the previous 24 hours, "the single highest day in recent memory."
Democrats have blamed Republicans for the border crisis. But the Washington Free Beacon reported that the Biden administration saw the migrant surge coming and failed to act.
