A Border Patrol agent was reportedly beaten and bloodied by an illegal immigrant, the latest evidence of the worsening situation at the southern border as record numbers of migrants enter the country.
Former Republican congresswoman Mayra Flores, whose husband is a border agent, shared photos of the bloodied agent as well as the alleged migrant assailant, who had the word "rat" marked on his forehead. According to Flores, the migrant, who was apprehended near McAllen, Texas, "was labeled a rat by the cartels."
"This is the type of violence that is being exerted on Border Patrol Agents by those who don't want to be apprehended," Flores said on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. "Please pray for our men and women in uniform."
Flores is running again for her border district seat after she was defeated in her reelection bid last year.
The photos are just the latest development from the border, where sources told Fox News Monday that in the last day there have been 11,000 border crossings, marking the "single highest day in recent memory."
