Democratic congressman Hank Johnson (Ga.) attempted to criticize former special counsel John Durham's recently concluded probe by saying that Durham "couldn't even indict Hunter Biden." The Durham probe had nothing to do with Hunter Biden.
Johnson gave a long list of people whom Durham didn't indict, including Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. "To the extreme disappointment of some on this panel," Johnson asked Durham, "your investigation … couldn't even indict Hunter Biden?"
"We didn't investigate Mr. Hunter Biden," Durham responded. Johnson ignored the response and kept on with his questioning.
The Georgia Democrat was questioning Durham as part of a Wednesday House Judiciary Committee hearing on Durham's probe into the FBI and the Justice Department's investigation of former president Donald Trump. Durham concluded that the FBI's basis for investigating the conspiracy theory that Trump colluded with Russia was "seriously flawed."
The FBI's investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion, which was led by former special counsel Robert Mueller, ultimately found no evidence that Trump's campaign colluded with Russia.
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, on Tuesday agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and to enter into a plea deal to avoid a felony firearms charge. Republicans have blasted the charges as a "slap on the wrist" for the president's son, with House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) promising that the charges wouldn't affect his probe into Biden's murky financial dealings.
Johnson, a nine-term congressman, has a long history of bizarre remarks. Over the years, he has suggested that U.S. troop deployments may cause the island of Guam to tip over, launched into an anti-Semitic tirade during which he compared Israeli settlers to termites, and criticized World War II-era Japanese internment policies by saying that authorities probably put "all the Oriental people" into camps.
