Sunny Hostin, cohost of the daytime show The View, made a bizarre and false claim about Republican presidential candidate and former vice president Mike Pence.

"The thing about Pence here is that when I lived in Indiana and I went to Notre Dame, he had a terrible approval rating because of the way he treated the AIDS crisis," Hostin said on the show Wednesday. "Awful. A lot of people died because of him."

It's unclear what Hostin is referring to, as she graduated Notre Dame Law School in 1994, when Pence was a radio host. He didn't become governor of Indiana until 2013, 19 years after Hostin's graduation. He didn't enter his first role in public office until 2001, as first noted by National Review, when he became a member of Congress.

Pence entered the race this week, taking on his former boss and clear frontrunner Donald Trump and Florida governor Ron DeSantis.

"I'll always be proud of the progress we made together for a stronger and more prosperous America," Pence said in an announcement video.
