FAIL: MSNBC Flubs Assad’s Religious Affiliation

MSNBC mistakenly referred to Syrian President Bashar al-Asad, a Shia Muslim, as a Sunni Muslim in an article published on Tuesday.

The correction at the bottom of the story said:

Due to an editing error, an earlier version of this article referred to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as a member of the Sunni branch of Islam. He is a secular Alawite, part of the Shiite branch. We regret this error.
