A computer system called the Medicaid management information system in Illinois needs to be modernized to handle the millions of individual medical cases that will result from Obamacare. The cost to do this is an estimated $190 million.
The contract was given to CNSI without a competitive bid proses, due to a loophole in Obamacare.
CNSI is already under federal investigation for questionable business practices in other states.
"This has the hallmarks of everything that is so Chicago and so Illinois, which is totally imprudent and not best practice," Illinois State Senator Ron Sandack said.
