Lester Holt on Thursday announced that NBC would cut away from the Jan. 6 hearings and instead cover the U.S. Open.
"We're going to have to end our coverage of this Jan. 6 hearing on the NBC network. My colleagues and I will continue our coverage on the hearings on our streaming platform," Holt said. "U.S. Open golf begins momentarily."
While some Twitter users fretted over NBC's decision to choose "golf over democracy," most said the network's choice was for the best.
"People will watch golf," one person noted.
The next hearings are scheduled for June 21 and 23. Maybe NBC can swing broadcasting those, but viewership numbers might still be rough.
