Former Florida Democratic state senator to plead guilty in tax evasion case

February 7, 2012

Former Florida Democratic state senator Mandy Dawson will plead guilty to federal income tax evasion charges, according to an Orlando Sentinel report. A 16-year state legislator and 10-year senator, Dawson was charged in July for failing to file tax returns for multiple years in the mid-2000s. She allegedly received more than $80,000 from a political fundraiser attempting to hide said cash from the federal government, and then failed to report it to the IRS. She faces up to 13 years in prison.
