Fox News anchor Chris Wallace eviscerated Robert Mueller for his testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee during the first break in Mueller's marathon appearance, calling it a "disaster" for Democrats and Mueller's reputation.
He criticized Mueller for not seeming to have command of the substance of Mueller's report.
"I think this has been a disaster for the Democrats, and I think it's been a disaster for the reputation of Robert Mueller," Wallace said. "He has seemed very uncertain with his brief, he doesn't seem to know things that are in the report, he has been attacked a number of times, and you would think that almost anybody else would have defended his own integrity and the integrity of the investigation."
"Over and over, Mueller just sits silent and allows the attacks from the Republicans to sweep over him and says nothing," he continued. "I think it does raise questions about the degree to which he actually was in charge and control of this report because he doesn't seem very much in control or charge of what the final report was."
Wallace pointed to two moments as the most important parts of the testimony. He praised Jerry Nadler's (D., N.Y.) opening questions establishing that Mueller's report did not fully exonerate President Donald Trump of obstruction of justice.
He also praised John Ratcliffe's (R., Tx.) line of questioning which called out Mueller for concluding that he could not exonerate President Trump.
"When did that become a legal principle that a prosecutor can't exonerate anybody?" Wallace said. "You're innocent until proven guilty, so you're either proven guilty or you shut up."
