Vandehei: White House Digital Content Is Propaganda

Politico writers Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei analyzed the media's relationship with the Obama administration Thursday on "Charlie Rose."

In comparing President Obama to President Bush, VandeHei said Bush was more likable and congenial then Obama.

VandeHei also noted the digital content the White House produces is a form of propaganda and has allowed the administration to bypass traditional media in communication with the public:

CHARLIE ROSE: They understand social media better than anybody.

JIM VANDEHEI: Right. Which is a form of propaganda. It's a great way to get your message out with total clarity, without any interpretation to a group of people who want to hear your message. They have that. And then they are much more controlled and putting him out there in improvisational settings where he actually has to take tough questions from reporters. George Bush was criticized for this. But he put himself in those settings a lot more than President Obama has. The relationship is intense. There is no doubt this idea of using the Justice Department to go in and snoop what reporters are doing has exacerbated things, but that tension predated this.
