CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin called a Republican senator "pathetic" Friday for his stance the prior day during a hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Sen. Jeff Flake (R., Ariz.) was highlighted by CNN as one of the potential swing votes ahead of the Friday vote on whether to move the confirmation out of committee and confirm the Trump nominee. Toobin used the opportunity to go on a rant about his dislike of the senator.
"Jeff Flake, having called for the hearing, didn't even bother to use his five minutes. For one minute he sorta said 'Oh, this is very sad," Toobin said.
"If there is a weaker, more pathetic political figure in the United States than Jeff Flake, I am not aware of who it is. I thought yesterday was a classic demonstration of his inability to stand for anything," he continued.
"You are off the Flake family Christmas list once and for all," host John Berman joked.
Toobin's analysis comes in a week where he has accused the United States of being more racist and sexist than people acknowledge and said Republicans support Kavanaugh because they don't want gay people to "shop everywhere they want to shop."
Flake would go on to put out a statement Friday morning announcing he would vote to confirm Kavanaugh. "I believe that the constitution’s provisions of fairness and due process apply here...," Flake said.
