'The View' Hosts Rip Into Bila After She Calls Comey 'A Coward'

June 12, 2017

"The View" co-host Jedediah Bila incensed her fellow co-hosts on Monday when she said former FBI Director James Comey came off as a "coward" during his Senate testimony last week.

Comey testified about private conversations he had with President Donald Trump that included Trump leaning on him regarding ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Bila mocked Comey's reflection that he should have been "stronger" and stood up to Trump when the president hoped he would "let go" of the Flynn investigation. At one point, Comey said he wasn't "Captain Courageous."

"My issue though is with Comey once again," she said. "I watch this testimony, and I just thought, this guy read to me as such a coward. You sat there for so long and you hear about how Comey felt and, 'This made me uncomfortable.'"

Co-host Joy Behar interrupted Bila to say it was irrelevant, saying Trump had been outed as a liar hundreds of times by PolitiFact and it came down to whether Trump or Comey was more credible.

"How do you know [Comey] hasn't lied?" Bila asked.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg said Bila was willing to accept what he said "about all the other stuff," although it was not clear to what Goldberg was referring. Co-host Sunny Hostin said there were no senators who doubted Comey's veracity during their questioning.

"It doesn't seem odd to you that if he were sitting there and he were witnessing obstruction of justice, if he were witnessing, 'This guy's a liar, let me take some memos,'" Bila said. "Say something to the Senate Intel Committee. Say something to the Justice Department."

The other women protested, but Bila said it was strange that Comey didn't write memos about conversations with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who Comey says asked him to call the Hillary Clinton email investigation "a matter." Comey said the direction from Lynch made him feel "queasy."

Goldberg interrupted again to tell Bila not to "muddy the waters."
