U.S. Army Mistakenly Tweets ‘Trump Lies’

The U.S. Army issued an apology Wednesday after mistakenly posting an article to its official Twitter account claiming Donald Trump "lies once every 3 minutes, 15 seconds."

The tweet linked to an article posted to a site called "New Civil Rights Movement," which advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Though the tweet was quickly removed from the Army’s account, a screenshot of the gaffe had already gone viral on the Facebook page, "U.S. Army W.T.F! Moments." The page’s curator chastised the military branch in a message posted above the screen grab.

An Army official told Military.com the post was mistakenly posted by an employee who intended to share the message on her personal account. Her access to the service’s Twitter page has since been suspended, according to the official.

"The post is not the official position of the US Army," the official said in a statement. "We apologize for any confusion this may have caused our followers."

The Uniform Code of Military Justice prohibits service members from using their rank, branch of service, or Defense Department emblems to advocate political causes, Military.com noted.
