Trump Spokesman: I've Never Come Across a Situation Where Donald Trump Said Something Inaccurate

Jake Tapper: 'Seriously?'

November 30, 2015

A spokesman for Donald Trump said Monday on The Lead that he had never heard Trump saying anything inaccurate, causing CNN host Jake Tapper to respond, "Seriously?"

The latest Trump remarks to cause an uproar are his claim that thousands of Muslims were celebrating the September 11 terrorist attacks in New Jersey the day they happened. Tapper asked spokesman Michael Cohen to explain how there was no video evidence to substantiate such a claim.

"I'm not so sure that that's true, and I've worked for Mr. Trump now for a long time, and I can tell you that Mr. Trump's memory is fantastic, and I've never come across a situation where Mr. Trump has said something that's not accurate," Cohen said.

"There are--I, seriously?" Tapper asked.

"Yeah, seriously," Cohen said.

Cohen said "a lot of people" on Trump's "social media" who said they saw the celebrations with their own eyes, but he claimed that mainstream media members would refute Trump's claims no matter what.

"Are you calling all of them liars?" Cohen asked.

"I don't know who you're talking about," Tapper said. "You're talking about people on Twitter."

Trump has not produced evidence that any such mass celebrations occurred on U.S. shores by Muslims the day of the 9/11 attacks, but he has stood by the comments.

He also recently claimed to not have mocked a New York Times reporter's disability, when he appeared to do just that with what looked like a crude imitation of Serge Kovaleski's lame right arm caused by arthrogryposis. Trump said he didn't know what Kovaleski looked like, but Kovaleski said he has interviewed Trump in his office.
