The Republican National Committee raised $7.3 million in August, a success that some attribute to the fundraising draw of President Donald Trump.
The $7.3 million includes $3 million in small-dollar donations of $200 or less, NBC News reports. The RNC has raised a total of $93.3 million in 2017.
RNC Finance Chairman Steve Wynn called the fundraising haul an "unprecedented amount of support in a nonpresidential year." The size of contribution indicates that Americans want "even more of the economic and political leadership offered by our party and the Trump administration," he said.
"The Republican Party continues to thrive because of steady support from the American people," RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney-McDaniel said.
The RNC has conspicuously outpaced its counterpart, the Democratic National Committee, in fundraising since Democrats' historic defeat in the 2016 general election. In June, the RNC picked up $13.5 million compared to just $5.5 million for the DNC; in July, the RNC raised $10.2 million while the DNC raised a mere $3.8 million.
Democrats have pinned their fundraising hopes on still-popular former President Barack Obama, who is set to headline his first DNC fundraiser since leaving office on September 27.
