House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) remains a major liability for Democrats, according to new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday.

Forty-five percent of registered voters say they are less likely to support a candidate who backs her for House speaker should Democrats take control after the November election.

Just 21 percent say they are more likely to vote for someone who supports Pelosi for speaker. Thirty-two percent say it makes no difference.

Pelosi's unpopularity has prompted some Democrats in conservative districts to say they will not support her to lead the party, including newly elected Rep. Conor Lamb (D., Penn.).

Democrats running in Republican districts like New Jersey's 11th North Carolina's 9th have called for new leadership. In total, at least 20 Democrats have either outright opposed Pelosi or declined to support her.

In May, nine Democrats running to be the nominee in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District refused to say if they would vote to confirm Pelosi for House speaker.

The poll found both Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) also have low approval ratings. Ryan, however, announced in April that because of family considerations, he would not be running for reelection this year.

Pelosi has said she doesn't care if candidates refuse to back her "if they have to do that to win an election."

"I'm all for winning," she said.
