BuzzFeed discovered one of the first attack ads against Hillary Clinton—not from her campaign opponent, but from Pizza Hut.
Pizza Hut aired the commercial during the 1999 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. Clinton was still first lady when the commercial aired, but she expressed interest in running for the New York Senate seat in 2000. The commercial aired when Clinton was on a "listening tour" across New York to address concerns of her being a carpetbagger.
The commercial doesn’t mention Clinton once, but it makes several references to the former first lady.
The Clinton impersonator said, "How do I know so much about New York pizza? Cause New York, I want to be your next Senator!" The impersonator used a southern accent, one of Clinton’s better-known accents.
The most prominent reference to the impersonator being Clinton was at the end. A New York police officer says "$9.99! What do they think this is, Arkansas?"
Prior to her Senate campaign, Hillary Clinton never lived in New York or participated in the state politics.
