L.A. Reporter: Clinton ‘Needs Some Cash,’ So She Hit Up Friends in ‘Hollywood Political ATM’

August 23, 2016

A Los Angeles-based NBC reporter said Monday that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton "needs some cash" so she’s on a fundraising blitz with friends from the "Hollywood political ATM."

"The fact of the matter is Hillary Clinton needs some cash, so she’s coming to Hollywood to meet up with some friends," reporter Conan Nolan said. "Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Justin Timberlake, to name a few."

Clinton’s fundraising swing, Nolan said, includes what "some call the Hollywood political ATM." NBA Hall-of-Famer Magic Johnson’s event Monday charged $27,000 for a private reception with Clinton, while raising $100,000 earned dinner and a photograph with the Democratic nominee.

Movie stars Jessica Biel, Jennifer Anniston, and Tobey Maguire are among Clinton’s celebrity boosters who are hosting major donor events for the candidate this week.

After an East Coast swing over the weekend that included a Cape Cod event with Cher that reportedly raised $1.5 million, the Democratic nominee switched coasts for a trip to Los Angeles on Monday. In addition to taping an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she visited the homes of NBA Hall-of-Famer Magic Johnson and mega-donor Haim Saban for big-ticket fundraisers.

On Tuesday, she will visit the home of power couple Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel for a luncheon fundraiser that was initially going to be held at Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio’s house. The event will be co-hosted by actors Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Anniston and costs more than $33,000 a plate.

Clinton said after the New Hampshire primary in February that no one is "more committed to aggressive campaign finance reform than me."
