Local Ohio Parents Angry That Police Cared More About Biden Than Lost Kids

September 1, 2016

Stan Boney, a reporter for CBS affiliate WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio, spoke with local parents Thursday who were angry when their children were not dropped off at their designated location due to Vice President Joe Biden's visit.

Biden was in town to campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

"Well, we didn't know where our kids was," Jason Riley said. "There—there were some kids that got dropped off over on the next street and they lived over here. They weren't even supposed to be over there. The lady found her kids over there."

Before this, Boney spoke about the site he saw when their crew came to this neighborhood.

"When we showed up, there were a group of parents standing on this corner, concerned where their children were," he said. "Right now, there are some angry parents here in the Idora neighborhood because their kids, they didn't know where their kids were. They didn't know how their kids were going to get home and they were concerned about their safety."

Riley said that when they didn't know where their kids were, since they weren't dropped off where they always were, that he spoke to the police.

The police said that they were there to protect Biden.

"And we didn't know where ours was," he said. "When we asked the police where our kids were– there was to protect the vice president. So, I mean, everybody's freaking out."

The families were not able to get out of the neighborhood to retrieve their children due to road blockages that were not disclosed to the families of the communities.

Boney asked how the kids took this inconvenience.

"Were the kids upset when they got off the bus?" he asked Riley.

The children were not happy.

"Yes, she was," he said. "She was scared because you know, they've been sitting on the bus for an extra hour because—I don't know why."
