ABC's Jon Karl questioned the White House over a Bloomberg report that some of President Obama's biggest donors profit from corporate inversion, the tax-dodging practice of seeking out offshore mergers, which the president has censured.
Karl asked Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz if the president will return donations from these donors.
"No," Schultz responded.
"Why not?" Karl pressed. "These guys are profiting off the very practice that the president has condemned and wants to see stopped."
"Essentially the president has profited himself--his political apparatus has profited--by taking contributions from people who made money doing exactly this," Karl argued.
"I guess I would understand the skepticism more if we weren't doing something to tackle the problem," Schultz told him. "But instead we are going after any company that renounces its citizenship in order to pay less in taxes."
"Why not renounce those affiliations?" Karl wondered.
