Republican investigators expect that the House Intelligence Committee will be presented with a "smoking gun" showing that President Barack Obama's administration surveilled the Trump transition team, according to Fox News on Thursday.
At a Wednesday press conference, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R., Calif.) said he had seen evidence through an incidental collection that the Trump transition team had been surveilled. According to Fox, the newly discovered classified information will reportedly show that the Obama administration used foreign targets as a ruse to collect information on the Trump transition team.
The "smoking gun" is reportedly contained in documents from the National Security Agency, and will be delivered to the House Intelligence Committee by Friday. More classified documents have been requested from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but they have yet to comply with the requests.
Sources have told Fox News that Mike Pompeo, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, is "also sympathetic to the effort to determine, with documentary evidence, the extent of any alleged Obama administration spying on the Trump team."
