When Carly Fiorina was asked about Donald Trump during the first GOP debate Thursday, she went straight after the frontrunner’s cozy relationship with the Clintons.
"I didn’t get a phone call from Bill Clinton before I jumped in the race. Did any of you get a phone call from Bill Clinton? I didn’t," Fiorina said. "Maybe it’s because I hadn’t given money to the foundation."
The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard was referring to a Wednesday Washington Post report that Trump received a phone call from the 42nd president and Democratic frontrunner’s spouse, possibly encouraging him to run.
Fiorina, who also refers to herself as a Washington outsider, acknowledged Trump has tapped into Americans’ frustration with politics as usual.
The only female Republican candidate also questioned Trump’s flip-flopping on a broad range of issues.
"Since he has changed his mind on amnesty, on healthcare, and one abortion, I would just ask on what principles he would govern," she said.
