A man hosting a Hillary Clinton fundraiser this weekend in Michigan was forced to resign as Detroit's police chief in 2010 because he was sleeping with one of his subordinates in the department.

Warren C. Evans, currently the Wayne County Executive, is listed as one of the hosts for Sunday's "Conversation with Hillary" event at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan, which can be attended for $1,000—or $2,700 if attendees want a picture with Clinton. To be listed as a host for the event, Evans raised at least $27,000 for the campaign and earned himself a private reception with Clinton.

Evans was tapped to be Detroit's police chief in July 2009 but just over a year later was asked to step down by then-Mayor Dave Bing because "certain decisions" he made had compromised his ability to lead the department, the New York Times reported.

The decision that cost him his job was to engage in a sexual relationship with one of his subordinates, Lieutenant Monique Patterson, raising serious questions of whether he could objectively judge her performance.

Further complicating the issue was that Patterson didn't have the cleanest record in the department. An incident in which she pulled a gun on two men inside a Detroit bar resulted in the Wayne County prosecutor's office charging her with four felony crimes. The charges were eventually dropped but Patterson was given a 45-day suspension without pay from the department.

Here's some local news coverage of the scandal from back in 2010:

Evans didn't take his ouster lightly. In a bizarre turn of events, Evans produced evidence after his resignation showing that the newly named police chief, Ralph Godbee, was also sleeping with Patterson and that Bing knew about it.

"Maybe someone can help me with the Mayors mathematical equation and thought process," Evans wrote in a Facebook post. "Single man openly dates single woman = forced resignation. Married man has affair with single woman=promotion to Chief."

Patterson later admitted that she knowingly traded sex with Godbee for a promotion.

"I got a call from Lieutenant Monique Patterson, the cop caught in the love triangle between former chief Warren Evans and Ralph Godbee two years ago," wrote a reporter from Detroit's local Fox affiliate. "She said she had some text messages showing that she had sex with Godbee in exchange for a promotion."

"I want you, I think you, I breathe you, I taste you, I smell you, need I go on?" wrote Godbee in a text message to Patterson. "I need a face to face so you can see that I say what I say because I'm in LOVE WITH YOU!" he wrote in another.

Godbee was forced to resign in 2012 over an affair he was having with a different woman in the police department.

The string of police department sex scandals forced Mayor Bing to implement a policy against fraternization between city workers which previously didn't exist.

The Clinton campaign did not respond to a request for comment on the fundraiser.
