At a Wall Street Journal event Thursday morning, Democratic pollster Peter Hart discussed President Obama’s upcoming move to take executive action on immigration reform.
Hart likened the executive action move to the president’s partisan stimulus bill in his first term that had no Republican support and set a poor tone for the rest of the term.
"If you could rerun the whole presidency–I happen to believe in the stimulus bill–but I would have gone for a bipartisan stimulus bill, and I think you would have had a different atmosphere from the beginning," Hart said.
For Hart, pursuing immigration reform as an "opening gambit" would lead to a "divisive" atmosphere and make the president’s final two years in office even more challenging.
