Cosmopolitan columnist and liberal commentator Jill Filipovic argued in favor of legal abortion Tuesday, writing that it would lead to better sex.

The former Guardian columnist and frequent CNN online contributor argued on Twitter that abortion was good because it allowed women economic freedom.

"For many of us, it's a fundamental question of freedom, independence, and building the lives we want," she wrote.

But Filipovic also made the argument that abortion meant "better and less fearful sex."

Filipovic has floated similar arguments before. In a December CNN op-ed, she lamented President Donald Trump's election because "sex is about to get a lot less fun."

She argued that, in addition to the usual "benefits" of abortion, "more of us are able to have sex without the anxiety of pregnancy, to enjoy the unique and fundamentally human pleasure that sex creates, and to tend to our relationships without the interruption and emotional devastation that an unintended pregnancy can bring."

In 2015, Filipovic was one of 16 journalists to receive Planned Parenthood's Maggie Award for Media Excellence, given to "fearless journalists and activists for their always honest, brave, and accurate reporting on sexual and reproductive health."
