Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) echoed Nancy Pelosi's oft-repeated criticism of Republican tax reform Wednesday by describing the bonuses received by workers as a result of corporate tax cuts as "crumbs."
"Who's getting the most? We're getting crumbs," Booker said at a town hall. He added that the thousand-dollar bonuses received by taxpayers were not "free money" because the bonuses drive up the national debt.
Booker joins a chorus of criticism about the tax reform from the left. Pelosi (D., Calif.) first described the bonuses as "crumbs" back in January before re-asserting her criticisms on multiple occasions. In early March, she did appear to walk back that particular characterization.
Vice President Mike Pence slammed Pelosi as "out of touch" for her comments.
Pelosi also called the tax bill "Armageddon" and described it as "unpatriotic."
She also made a misleading claim that middle-class Americans will see tax increases under the tax bill.
