White House policy adviser Stephen Miller refused to leave the CNN set on Sunday after a fiery interview on "State of the Union" and was escorted out by security, according to a CNN source.

Miller's heated exchange with host Jake Tapper eventually ended with Tapper abruptly stopping the interview, saying he was wasting the "viewers' time."

A CNN source told the Washington Free Beacon that, after the interview ended, Miller would not leave the set until security intervened.

"The segment was over and Mr. Miller was politely asked to leave the set multiple times—after refusing to leave, he was escorted out by security," the source said.

Business Insider initially reported that Miller ignored requests to leave the set in Washington, D.C.

The White House did not respond to a Free Beacon request for comment.

During the interview, Miller blasted Michael Wolff's new book about the Trump White House, calling it "grotesque." Miller also called former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon's rhetoric against President Donald Trump "tragic," repeatedly called Trump a "genius," and ripped into CNN for its "hysterical coverage" of Trump.

Tapper told Miller during the interview that he was being "obsequious" and that he was performing for an "audience of one," referring to the president. Miller told Tapper that he was being "condescending," and the interview veered off the rails as the two men repeatedly talked over one another.

Eventually, Tapper grew impatient with Miller and cut him off, moving on to the next subject.
