CNN Calls Out Clinton Campaign for Not Coming on to Answer Questions

August 22, 2016

CNN New Day host John Berman pointed out to viewers Monday that the morning show had zero high-level Clinton surrogates the past two weeks because they had avoided interview requests.

"You may have noticed that no Hillary Clinton high-level surrogates, no high-level staffers on the show," Berman said. "We’ve been asking for the last two weeks, and for the last two weeks the Clinton campaign has not provided New Day with any senior campaign official as a spokesman. We’d love to have you."

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has not had a press conference since December.

Campaign manager Robby Mook said on Sunday’s Face the Nation that Clinton was not "shying away from tough questions." He said Clinton has been taking questions from reporters and said that she had done well over 300 interviews this year.

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza reported Clinton’s weakness has been press conferences, using as an example her press conference at the United Nations last March about the controversy surrounding her private email server.

"Why do something you aren’t good at unless you absolutely have to? If campaigns are about downplaying your weaknesses while putting your strengths front and center, Clinton’s avoidance of press conferences is Campaigning 101," Cillizza wrote.
