Hip-hop artist Russell Simmons told CNN's Carol Costello that he is endorsing his "longtime friend" Hillary Clinton for president.
"I have just decided to endorse my longtime friend Sen. Clinton," Simmons said. "I think that Sen. Sanders is overpromising; he's insensitive to the plight of black people."
Then Simmons went on to slam Sanders for not taking lobbyist money or acknowledging that what Simmons believed, which is that the factory farming lobby is poisoning America and the world.
"So the shift has to be made away from the animal product and away from the beef industry, but all the animal products into a plant-based diet or there will be no planet, and in the next 50 years we won't have an ocean," Simmons said. "When the oceans die, we die. We cannot have a lobbyist take advantage of all our natural resources to poison the planet and the people."
He said that when he met with Sanders that he brushed off Simmons concerns. Simmons went on to blame earthquakes and hurricanes on factory farming and demanded that something must be done to prevent more from happening.
Simmons has been a vegan for 17 years.
"But I think Sen. Clinton has been sensitive, supportive of a progressive agenda," Simmons said. "She's able to beat the Republican candidate, and I think that Bernie Sanders would not be able to, or could lose. And I don't want to take that chance."
