Democratic congressman Joaquin Castro (D., Texas) falsely claimed Sunday that Hillary Clinton had been "cleared" by the Department of Justice over her private email server, leading to a quick on-air fact-checking.
"It's been settled by the Congress," Castro said. "The Congress has looked into it. The Justice Department has looked into it, and they've cleared her."
"The Department of Justice is looking into it," State of the Union host Dana Bash said, correcting Castro. "But that's for another--"
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt quipped, "She's been cleared? I missed that headline."
News broke last week that the Justice Department had granted immunity to the aide who set up Clinton's private server, but the criminal investigation into potential mishandling of classified information continues.
